Carrot or stick? Using positive incentives to support green business

Carrot mobs are a powerful way to show support for businesses that are doing the right thing. We use our engaged social networks to pack a business with customers and boost its sales for the day. In return, the business promises to dedicate 100% of the additional sales from that day to making the shop or facility more energy efficient.

Why “Carrot” Mob? The idea is to use the "carrot" instead of the "stick." Rather than attacking or penalizing a business in order to exert influence, we believe a positive incentive is a much stronger motivator for change. Instead of boycotting environmentally backward businesses, we reward the ones who are going green by bringing the masses through their doors.

Carrot Mob 2012

Thank you to all the folks who came to our Carrot Mob on January 21 - all 440 of you. It was inspiring to see so many people come out on a blustery day to support the greening of a local business. The Carrot Mob produced $1,400 and 100% of those funds will pay for major lighting improvements that will increase energy efficiency and reduce the shop’s carbon footprint.
