Vision: We choose eco smart products that reduce our carbon footprint

products-cec-canteenAlmost every product and service we rely on today is manufactured with and transported by fossil fuels.

However, as we strive to become a “fossil free” community, we have the power to choose eco smart products that use fewer fossil fuels. When we opt for locally grown food, limited plastic packaging, and energy smart products, we not only reduce our carbon footprint, we support environmentally conscious businesses and our own local economy. We also have the power to reduce our impact even further by consuming less — and quite possibly enjoying our occasional purchases more.

WHAT CEC IS DOING

Reducing Disposable Plastic Bottle Use in Schools — Through CEC’s pilot project Rethink the Drink, we have installed water refill stations for students at Santa Barbara schools. These popular refill stations dispense cold, filtered water for students at Santa Barbara High School and Franklin Elementary School, Santa Barbara Junior High School, and the gym at Westmont College. We hope to expand this pilot project to more schools in the near future. > Rethink the Drink on Facebook

Reducing Plastic Bottle Waste at Events — Thanks to support from the Orfalea Foundation, CEC uses two 125-gallon Water Monster portable water dispensers at the Santa Barbara Earth Day Festival and other outdoor Santa Barbara events. The Water Monster is available for rental from CEC for your event. > This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
