People Focused Communities

Vision: Our communities center around people, not cars

The community we want to live in is centered on people instead of cars. CEC is advocating for win-win solutions such as pedestrian trails and bike lanes, cheaper commutes, less time in traffic, vibrant neighborhoods, and healthy families.

WHAT CEC IS DOING

Helping Families ‘Walk and Roll’ to School — If you’ve ever lived by a school you know that rush hour traffic revolves around the school day.  CEC’s Walk and Roll program – in conjunction with Traffic Solutions — encourages parents and students to carpool, walk, bike or take the bus to school. > Get going with Walk and Roll

Creating On-Demand Easy Ridesharing — Imagine being able to quickly find a carpool to get to work on time — all before breakfast! CEC is partnering with Traffic Solutions to pilot a dynamic ridesharing project, one of the first in the country. The pilot project uses cell phones and the internet to create on demand carpools among social networks, targeting the most congested corridors on the south coast. > Sign up for breaking news as dynamic ridesharing launches

City Planning for Long Term Sustainability — CEC plays a major role in long-term sustainable community planning by encouraging civic engagement in the Regional Transportation Plan, the County’s Climate Action Strategy, the City of Santa Barbara’s general plan update and similar works. In addition to providing our own detailed comments, our job is to bring more people into the process to truly design people-centered communities. > Sign up for email alerts

Try Ridesharing, Buses, Trains, Telecommuting, Biking, and Walking — Try it once. Try it a few times per week or per month. All these alternatives to the single-passenger commute will reduce our vehicle miles traveled (VMT) while improving our health and creating more vibrant communities. > Traffic Solutions

Stay In Touch & Take Action — CEC will share opportunities to get involved, take action, and take advantage of incentives for ridesharing. Sign up for e-mail alerts and we’ll notify you. Connect with us via CECSB on Facebook.
