Solarize Santa Barbara was a limited time pilot project that made it easier and cheaper for people to go solar. While the program has now ended, we are assessing the program with the intent of bringing back something even better!

As of July 31, 28 homeowners have signed contracts to go solar. We will be reporting final numbers after August 15. Please stay tuned for more details and in the mean time check out our other resources.

Solar Power Group Purchasing Works

This program was designed after similar successful models in cities like Portland, Oregon. CEC evaluated and qualified local solar contractors who, in turn, offered a discount on a group purchase of a solar power system.

How CEC Helps You

We pre-qualified experienced solar contractors to secure a discounted solar panel price. We were able to offer a discount by working with solar contractors to pre-select an optimal solar power system, which was purchased in bulk. In addition to getting a discounted

price for solar power, Solarize Santa Barbara participants helped to support the CEC’s mission.  Included in the purchase price was a small one-time fee ($0.15 per installed watt) that was based on the size of their solar installation and will be paid by the solar installers, directly to the CEC.  This fee helped the CEC continue to promote renewable energy in the Central Coast region and be self-sustaining, with no additional cost to the homeowner.

Who was qualified to participate?

• Live within the service territory (south Santa Barbara County)
• Own a suitable home for solar installation
• Sign a contract with one of our pre-qualified installers from May 1, 2011 through July 31, 2011
