Go Solar Schools #gosolar

Schools across the country, and especially in California, are increasingly powered by solar energy. Thanks to declining solar costs, going solar often saves schools substantial money, allowing them to redirect these funds to educating students. Santa Barbara School District should be next, joining neighboring districts in Santa Maria and Oxnard that are powered by the sun. As one of the largest landowners in the region, going solar will also help the cities of Santa Barbara and Goleta reach their 100% renewable energy by 2030 goals.

Updated Alert: Success! SB 100 Signed Into Law

Original Alert: Call Assemblymember Monique Limón today to share your support for 100% carbon-free energy in California by 2045.

Result: The 78 calls made by CEC's followers contributed to the passage of SB 100, which requires California to move to 100% carbon-free energy by 2045. It will next need to pass the Senate, and be signed by Governor Jerry Brown.

Updated Alert: Success! Community Choice Energy takes a huge step forward

Original Alert: Support Community Choice Energy for Santa Barbara by signing a petition or speaking at any of three hearings on July 17: Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors, Goleta City Council, or Santa Barbara City Council.

Result: About 145 people signed a petition or came out to speak at the three hearings on July 17, 2018. Coupled with over a decade of encouragement from the Community Environmental Council and other advocates, the County of Santa Barbara and the Cities of Santa Barbara and Goleta each independently voted to move forward with launching a local Community Choice program.

Original Alert: Support a goal of 100% renewable energy in Goleta City by signing a petition, sending a letter to city officials, and attending the community hearing.
Result: In a unanimous vote, City of Goleta council members committed to moving the city's municipal facilities and community-wide electricity supply to 100% renewable power by 2030. They also resolved to have at least 50 percent of electricity use by municipal facilities come from renewable sources by 2025. To support these goals, the city authorized investigating the feasibility of a city-wide Community Choice Energy program that could encourage more local renewable generation.

Updated Alert: City of SB to go 100% Renewable by 2030 #readyfor100

Original Alert: Support a goal of 100% renewable energy in Santa Barbara City by sending a letter to city officials and attending the community hearing.

Result: Over 1,200 signatures were gathered, and citizens turned out in record numbers to show support for renewable energy, filling Santa Barbara City Council's chambers, overflow room, and even the balcony. In a 5-1 vote, the council committed to setting a goal of achieving 100% renewable energy by 2030.
