Goleta City Council Vote on 100% Renewable Energy
December 5, 2017 @ 2:30 pm - 5:00 pm
On Tuesday, December 5 the Goleta City Council will vote on setting a goal of 100% renewable energy by 2030. Let them know you support renewable energy!
2) Email Goleta City Council members today and share why the goal of 100% renewable matters to you. Click here for a list of email addresses and a few talking points you can use in your email.
3) Attend the City Council meeting (signs encouraged!) on Tuesday, December 5 at Goleta City Hall, 130 Cremona Drive, Suite B. The item is C2 on the agenda, and we anticipate it beginning after 2:30 p.m. Please view this City staff report and speak at the hearing about why renewable energy is important to you and Goleta. Let us know you are coming by joining the Facebook event or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
NOTE: City Council meeting starts at 1:30, but this item will likely not come up until 2:30, so it’s probably safe to come at that time.
Hurricanes and wildfires are just the latest reminders of our rapidly warming climate and the risks if we don’t take immediate action to reduce emissions by transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable sources of energy. Here’s a chance to do our part locally.
Since Santa Barbara became the 30th city in the nation to set a 100% renewable energy goal last June, twenty additional cities around the nation have done so, including surprising additions like St. Louis, home of Peabody Coal. The ski town of Truckee near Tahoe (at risk of losing its snow) is the latest to do so.
Some cities have already achieved 100% renewable energy so we know it’s possible. Let’s add Goleta to this rapidly growing list and take change into our own hands.
