CEC is committed to creating a more resilient and just region in the face of climate change. Through our work with the Central Coast Climate Justice Network and elsewhere, our vision includes an end to racial injustices and their resulting environmental inequities.

CEC’s Solarize program is charging the solar movement by making it easier and more affordable for people and businesses to install solar power. Our group purchasing model helps local homeowners install solar electricity through a streamlined and hassle-free process, at a discounted price. We have helped over 800 local homeowners, bringing 3.5 megawatts of solar to the Central Coast.

Our Solarize Nonprofit program is going strong! And the Solarize Santa Barbara and Solarize Ventura County 2020 programs are now open for homeowners to get assistance in adding clean solar energy and battery storage to their homes.

Here are other locations where we have run Solarize programs in the past:

  • Irvine City
  • 126 Highway Corridor
  • Carpinteria Valley
  • Kern County
  • Ojai Valley
  • San Luis Obispo County
  • Santa Ynez Valley

CEC envisions a future where 100% of the electricity that powers our homes, businesses, and cars is generated from clean, renewable, and local sources. In our 2007 white paper, New Energy Direction: a Blueprint for Santa Barbara County, we show that the abundant availability of sun and wind in our region can provide more than enough renewable energy to meet our needs.

Our region is a “sweet spot” for solar power — we’re blessed with the ideal combination of abundant sunny days and south-facing coastlines. CEC believes Santa Barbara County, along with solar-friendly Ventura and San Luis Obispo counties, can lead the nation in solar installations.
